A man was killed and a woman injured in Kenwood on the South Side on Thursday night.

The two were on the sidewalk on the 4600 block of South Ellis Avenue around 10:40 p.m. when someone opened fire, hitting them both, Chicago police said.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, was shot in the chest and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said. A 29-year-old woman was taken to the same hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Witnesses told officers the suspect pulled into an alley and headed south in a gray SUV, officials said.
