Melbourne vs Brisbane Betting Tips

MCG, Thursday, June 23, 7:20 p.m. (AEST)

Melbourne

Injuries: Max Gawn, Blake Howes, Tom McDonald, Joel Smith, Daniel Turner (Out) Jake Melksham, Fraser Rosman (Test)

The Dees have lost three games in a row and will now be without star player and captain Max Gawn for the next 2-4 weeks. Thankfully, they’re getting one of their key players in Steven May back from suspension this week, which will be crucial as they take on Brisbane’s dynamic vanguard.

After a fantastic start to the season, the Dees could potentially slide to fourth place or even lower if they are crushed on Thursday night, so there is a lot at stake for the premiership favourites. In the past three weeks they have only scored 57.6 points per game and they urgently need to find more ways to move forward.

Brisbane

Injuries: Darcy Gardiner (Out) Kai Lohmann, Dayne Zorko (Test)

The Lions struggled with many injuries earlier in the season, but have recovered in recent weeks. Dayne Zorko could return to the sidelines Thursday night, leaving them with a nearly full lineup for the table clash head-on.

The Lions lost two of their last four games, but backed them both up with impressive wins the following week. They’re on their farewell rounds over the weekend, so they should be feeling fresh for the trip to Victoria.

Match Prediction

What a tough match to name. Will the Dees prove to the country that they are still the best despite three defeats in a row or can the Lions go to bed on Thursday night as premiership favorites?

The Demons start at home as minor favorites at 6.5 points, but I’m not really winning to take either team on that line. The weather is looking good on Thursday night in Melbourne, so conditions should be optimal for a free game.

I think it has to go back and forth quite a bit for most of the game, which is why I like the value of ‘any other result’ in the wire-to-wire market. Three of their last four games have resulted in a win for this market.

Prop Bets

Like Jack Viney’s chances of hitting the scoreboard on Thursday night. The midfielder has kicked a goal in each of his first five games this season and then went scoreless in his next five. He came back on the board in round 13 with one goal against the Magpies. I think the Dees will be playing a bit more aggressive across the board this week with their safety blanket back in the side in May.

Jack Viney 1+ Goal ($2.95 at BetRight)

The slight downfall seems to be the game here, as the MCG hasn’t been scoring particularly high lately. Every one of the last seconds of games at the MCG has gone below the total points line.

Under 161.5 ($1.88 at Ladbrokes)
