West Coast is finally back on the winner’s list and will try to build some momentum when they face the Tigers in the MCG on Sunday.

It won’t be an easy task for the Eagles as Richmond is reeling from their three-point defeat to Geelong last weekend.

Richmond vs West Coast Betting Tips

MCG, Sunday, July 3, 2:10 p.m. (AEST)

Injuries: Dion Prestia (out), Noah Balta, Trent Cotchin

Dion Prestia will miss this weekend with a concussion after taking a sickening punch from Tom Stewart last weekend, while Balta and Cotchin are still a few weeks away.

Richmond would no doubt have been disappointed after losing to Geelong last weekend in one of the best games of the year. It really was a finals-like match, with both teams showing why they are premiership candidates in 2022, but in the end only one side could take the four points. Despite the loss, a win against West Coast Richmond will have anchored them firmly in the top eight, and they are sure to start firing on all cylinders after a slow start to the year. There is also a lot of room for improvement – Dustin Martin has not reached his former heights this season, and the back six are still finding their rhythm. Overall, the passionate Tigers stalwarts can be confident that their team will be up to the challenge again in September as they look to add a fourth premiership to the dynasty.

Injuries: Oscar Allen, Campbell Chesser, Tom Cole, Hugh Dixon, Luke Edwards, Tom Joyce, Zac Langdon, Jeremy McGovern, Dom Sheed

Star ruckman Nic Naitanui returns this week, a huge boost for the struggling Eagles who were constantly mustered in the ruck. The injury roster is gradually improving for West Coast, but McGovern and Sheed remain sidelined.

The Eagles finally broke their losing streak last weekend by bringing down the Bombers to keep the critics at bay for at least a short while. West Coast has had a disastrous season, but there may be something to salvage from the past few months, namely a few wins. Nic Naitanui is a huge addition to the squad this week, but with more players returning from injury, expectations will rise for the Western Australian side to deliver a performance equal to or better than last week. While the team overview looks better on paper, there are still quite a few laggards lined up and the chemistry will take more than a few weeks to recover. Nevertheless, the Eagles will retreat to avoid the wooden spoon in 2022.

Match Prediction

Richmond…but how much? That seems to be the story around this game.

It’s fair enough, too, given that the Tigers defeated West Coast by 109 points a few months ago.

I think the reinforcements the Eagles have received in recent weeks will make this a closer affair, albeit that Richmond should win without much trouble.

Richmond have won their last two encounters with West Coast at the MCG by a combined margin of just 17 points, and I think the Eagles have the cattle in the middle of the park to give their attackers some chances.

As such, I take the visitors here in a long line.

Defenders traditionally do well against the Tigers and their strong mentality, so Hurn should be seeing a lot of the Sherrin today. He takes on the No. 1 rebounder role in the absence of Alex Witherden and has accomplished this goal in three of his last four games.

Shannon Hurn 90+ Fantasy ($2.15 at Ladbrokes)

Shai Bolton has only had 20+ dives in five games this season, but his peaks generally come when Dion Prestia is missing, such as this week. Bolton dominated last time against the Eagles, scoring three goals from 30 possession, so he should face this encounter with a lot of confidence.
