Gold Coast vs Richmond Betting Tips

Metricon Stadium, Saturday, July 9, 4:35 p.m. (AEST)

Gold Coast

Injuries: Connor Budarick (out), Alex Davies, Joel Jeffrey, Ben King, Wil Powell, Lachie Weller, Bodhi Uwland

Last weekend, Connor Budarick became the latest in a row of Suns to ruin their seasons with a knee injury. He will be sidelined for 12 months, a cruel blow.

Two minor losses have brought Gold Coast’s season to the brink. At 7-8, the young Suns will have to win almost all of their remaining games to make it into the top eight. It was clear after last week’s loss that the team had visibly deflated, so can they revive their campaign against the Tigers? In a positive development, Stuart Dew has re-signed to coach the club in the future, so perhaps his display of confidence will fuel the team. Jack Lukosius is also included in the 22 this week, after a long injury. He will bring much-needed versatility to the side, with the ability to play both forwards and backwards.

Richmond

Injuries: Dustin Martin (out), Kane Lambert (out), Noah Balta, Trent Cotchin, Sydney Stack

Dustin Martin will miss this week following a hamstring injury, while Lambert is also out. They are two significant absentees, but Dion Prestia returns after recovering from a concussion.

Richmond are in good form, with their only two recent losses by one goal or less. The top four are still on the line, provided the Tigers can pull off a winning streak, but even if they fail, a spot in September is very likely. This week will be a serious in-depth test, as Dustin Martin has been the match winner for such a long period of time and Josh Gibcus has developed into a reliable key defense post in his first season. Ben Miller will have to take on a lot of responsibility in the back, while a large number of young midfielders will try to fill Dusty’s shoes. There will be plenty of key pillars going to the park to the north on Saturday night though – Tom Lynch and Jack Reiwoldt score goals while Toby Nankervis and Jayden Short pull it off in the center of the ground.

Match Prediction

Pre-teams I was firmly in Richmond’s camp.

However, that is not the case now.

I really like the makeup of Gold Coast’s side this week and I believe Levi Casboult and Mabior Chol’s one-two punch will really challenge Richmond’s sometimes leaky backline.

The Suns will also be confident as they beat the Tigers at home by 10 points last season.

I see little chance of a blowout anyway, but the combination of a home advantage, a good side on paper and desperate bets makes me lean towards the Suns.

It has been a difficult year for Jack Bowes, who has struggled with injuries. Since his return, he has been placed as a backline distributor, averaging 17 sales in the past two weeks. That doesn’t bode well for him to hit 20 this week, but the absence of Oleg Markov should give him a boost with extra kick-ins.

Chol has been a revelation this year as a steady stream of goals, realizing the potential everyone saw while in Richmond. Here we have a revenge game story, an understaffed opposition backline and a man in shape. It’s hard not to support him.
