Sydney vs Western Bulldogs Betting Tips

SCG, Friday, July 8, 7:50 PM (AEST)

Injuries: Josh Kennedy, Sam Naismith (Out)

The Swans are currently in the best shape of probably any team in the AFL in terms of injuries. Josh Kennedy is only a few weeks away, which will see them in full swing for the off-season and ending ruckman Sam Naismith’s knee injury.

They may be traveling well in terms of injuries, but the Swans’ form has been extremely inconsistent over the past month or so. They had fantastic consecutive wins over the Tigers and Demons leading up to their retirement, but have since dropped games as favorites for the Power and Bombers.

The most common theme in their inconsistency is their form at home and on the go. They are 5-2 when playing at the SCG this season, as opposed to just 4-4 when playing out.

Western Bulldogs

Injuries: Josh Bruce, Taylor Duryea, Charlie Parker, Bailey Smith, Laitham Vandermeer, Mitch Wallis (Out) Tim English, Stefan Martin, Ed Richards (Test)

The Doggies are likely to get a boost this week with the return of star ruckman Tim English after being sidelined for a few weeks with a concussion. It will be a huge inclusion for the Dogs, who have had to run in the ruck with Jordan Sweet for the past few weeks.

The Dogs got a bit of a lesson in Round 16 on Thursday night, taking 41 points to the Lions at the Gabba. Their midfield continues to dominate the games, but their defense has struggled since the bye, with 98.6 points per game.

Match Prediction

The Swans were only average against a much-improved Bombers side in Round 16, but they should be respected when they return to the SGC this week. At home, they start out as favorites at 8.5 points, a line I really like in their favor.

The Dogs are outside the top 10 in the league for points allowed per game and the Swans have scored in stacks at the SCG this season, with 91 points per game at home. I think they will win comfortably on Friday night.

Prop Bets

Well back to the Sam Reid this week after a successful journey in round 16. The main striker had a good chance to kick 2+ and he did not disappoint, scoring two goals after four scoring shots. In his last six games against the Bulldogs, he has scored 16 goals and never managed to kick at least two.

Reid 2+ Goals ($2.55 at Ladbrokes)

It’s kind of a case of the unstoppable force versus the immovable object this week when it comes to high-deletion games. The Dogs have by far the most 30+ elimination matches/games this season, while the Swans are the second most stingy defense in the league when it comes to allowing possession. I actually like ALL the unders on the Western Bulldogs takeout lines this week. Take the unders Macrae, Treloar, Dunkley, Libba, Bontempelli, I’d be shocked if you go worse than 3/5 on this one.
