Croatian star Luka Modric revealed his views on Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe’s refusal to play for Real Madrid after he came very close to visiting the Spanish capital.
Mbappe had recently extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain for a period of three years for an astronomical sum of €300 million, split between signing bonus and annual salaries, becoming the highest paid player in the world.
Mbappe, with his decision to extend for Paris Saint-Germain, shocked many Real Madrid fans who wanted to see him at the Bernabeu, especially as he gave many indications of his desire to play for the royal team, including his postponement of the extension for the French giant until the last moments.
In comments from the newspaper “Marca”, 37-year-old Modric said that Mbappe’s failure to come to Real Madrid would not have a major impact on the team, without ruling out the possibility of him joining “Merengi” in the future. .
He stressed that Mbappe took his decision in complete freedom to “stay in Paris Saint-Germain and not go to Madrid, as everyone expected”.
He continued: “That is why we will not crucify him. There is no player more important than the club and Real Madrid is the best, more important than any player, and always will be.”
On the possibility of Mbappe moving to Real Madrid at a later date, Modric said: “No one knows what may happen in the future, in three or four years in football the time will become clear.”
