Hundreds of Tunisians received the national tennis champion, Anas Jaber, in front of the Municipal Theater in the center of the capital on Friday to celebrate her second place win in the Mubadlon Championship.
The masses came especially to receive the “Minister of Happiness”, the title she enjoys among her fans, and the public raised the Tunisian flags to cheers of encouragement and welcome.
Jaber said in her speech: “I thank the Tunisian people who have always supported and encouraged me wherever I am.”
And she continued: “I am honored to reach the Wimbledon final, and I will not stop here, I will continue the journey and my ambitions are great.”
She added: “The results I have achieved will motivate me to do more and better in the future, especially as I now have another challenge, which is to compete in the US Open Tennis Championships.”
On Thursday, Tunisian President Kais Saied presented the heroine, Jaber, with the first class of the National Medal of Merit, entitled the Sports Sector.
On July 9, Jaber finished second in the Wimbledon final, after losing to the Kazakh Elena Rybakina.
Jaber is the first Arab tennis player to play a Grand Slam final and ranks second in the world.
