A new era finally fulfilled a years-long dream for one of its actors

One scene in particular led to the fulfillment of one of the actors’ years-long dream. In ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’, the staff come downstairs to play extras in Mr. Barber’s movie ‘The Gambler’. One of those employees is the beloved cook, Mrs. Patmore, played by Lesley Nicol. And, as Robbins revealed, Nicol was able to experience a moment she’d always wanted. In /Film’s interview with Robbins, she explained that even though Nicol hadn’t asked for anything from her, she knew she had to fulfill the actress’s dream:

“I think the first request was an unspoken request because Lesley Nicol has been dreaming about wearing a tiara for years. So that was one of the first things I think we found for that scene is that we knew this was the opportunity we could drop some diamonds on Mrs. Patmore.’

So Nicol didn’t just get the royal treatment, her tiara was actually the number one priority. Sometimes not Asking things works to your advantage in the long run!
