All-Australian selector Gerard Healy has so far received a lot of praise for Nick Vlastuin’s 2022 season.
The Richmond premiership defender was named in the All-Australian squad of 40 in 2020 – his only real nomination – but failed to make the final 22.
Vlastuin, a three-time premiership player, has been an important cog in the defense of Richmond together with co-captain Dylan Grimes for a number of seasons.
Healy is surprised that Vlastuin has not received more recognition from All-Australian selectors in previous years.
The 28-year-old has been limited to just 18 games in the past two seasons – 12 last year and six so far in 2022 – due to knee and hamstring injuries.
“Since round 5 he is the second best interception mark in the competition. He’s number six for points,” Healy told Sports day†
“He’s so good in that area.
“I’m surprised they didn’t push him for All-Australian.”

The Brownlow medalist backs the Tigers to defeat Carlton in the MCG on Thursday night.
“I said Friday night I’d tip the Tigers,” Healy said.
“I think the Blues are too injured in the defensive area.
“If (Tom) Lynch is in, I think they are just too good on the ball. They are also fantastic at intercepting and they are very fast.
“I think they have a little bit more depth, the Tigers, and I’d be surprised if they don’t win.”
The Blues (9-3) defeated the Tigers (7-5) 25 points back in Round 1.
