On Tuesday 14 June, the Today show has released new clips from Amber Heard’s hour-long interview session with co-host Savannah Guthrie. In the video, the actress gave her opinion on the allegations made by Johnny Depp’s legal team about the defamation lawsuit of the former couple.
In the exclusive interview, Heard also addressed the alleged inconsistencies with her testimony regarding the audio recording shared in the Virginia courtroom. Today co-host Guthrie asked Heard about the audio recordings between the actress and her ex-husband, where she admitted to punching him.
However, in the interview, the Aquarius star denied hitting him without probable cause of self-defense. Like her testimony, the 36-year-old actress claimed she had only had physical altercations with Depp as part of her self-defense against him.
What did Amber Heard say in the interview about Johnny Depp and his role as “Edward Scissorhands”?
When Heard was asked to address the allegations made by Johnny Depp’s lawyers about the actress acting in her testimony, Heard stuck to her statements throughout the trial. She told Guthrie:
“Does the lawyer of the man who convinced the world say he had scissors for fingers? … I listened to testimonials for weeks [saying] I am a terrible actress. I’m a bit confused (about) how I could be both.”
Johnny Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez had previously mentioned in her closing remarks that Amber Heard gave the performance of her life during her testimony at the trial. Depp’s legal team also claimed the actress struggled to cry on command, according to the statement from Heard’s acting coach. During her closing statements at the trial, Vasquez reiterated that Heard had trouble crying with tears during her testimony. Vasquez insinuated that the 36-year-old feigned some emotion as he sat in the stands.
During her interview, Amber Heard reiterated her claims that she only beat Depp in self-defense. She said:
“As I testified in the stands about this, when your life is at stake, you don’t just take the blame for things you shouldn’t be blamed for.”
The actress further claimed that she never provoked an argument between herself and her ex-husband. Heard later noted that when you’re in the midst of violence, you have to adapt.
According to the clip, Savannah further questioned Guthrie Heard about her mockery of Depp in order to tell the world that she was a victim of domestic violence. However, the Texas resident insinuated that the fragment had additional context, which was removed. She claimed:
“Twenty-two-second clips or their transcriptions are not even representative of the two hours or the three hours from which those clips were taken.”
Johnny Depp supporters hit back at Amber Heard for her “Edward Scissorhands” comments to the actor
After the release of her clip from the interview, numerous pro-Johnny Depp supporters took to Twitter in shock, exclaiming Heard because he believed Edward Scissorhands’ character was real. The titular character played by Depp in Tim Burton’s 1999 classic was a synthetic man with hands made of scissors.
Several others made memes about Amber Heard’s statements, insinuating that the actress believed Edward Scissorhands’ fictional character was real.
