Android 13: In-Display Fingerprint Enrollment Gets Updated UI

To help improve the process of enrolling your fingerprint on devices with in-display readers, Android 13 Beta 3 has received a new enrollment user interface.

Of course, with the Pixel 6a and Pixel 7 series not officially available yet, that means the new UI is currently limited to the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. If you update a device that already has pre-registered biometrics, you may never see this new user interface. However, when you register a fingerprint or thumbprint, during the final stages of this process in Android 13 Beta 3, you’ll see a new animation and guides to help you better read your finger.

Given the bad press that the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro in-display fingerprint scanners have received, it’s likely that this new guidance and improved UI have been added to ensure better registration processes for all users. We do know that the upcoming Pixel 6a will use a different in-display scanner, but it remains to be seen whether this new change will help alleviate the issues with the Pixel 6 series.

Adding a new fingerprint enrollment UI within Android 13 makes it clearer when you need to adjust your finger and add the ends or edges. Android 12 currently uses a text prompt next to guide hooks, which are actually not fully visible when you press your finger on the screen.

Making this change to the fingerprint enrollment section in Android 13 could bring great benefits to the upcoming Pixel 7 series, but it could also help people with issues with their existing Pixel 6 series handset and provide better unlock times when using it. of the new unlock method.
