New Delhi [India]June 25 (ANI): ATK Mohun Bagan have further expanded their list of acquisitions and maintained a reputation for signing big names as the club announced the signing of Guinean international defender Florentin Pogba to a two-year deal on Saturday.
Florentin, brother of French World Cup winner and former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, will further bolster the Mariners’ defense, which was bolstered on Thursday by the addition of Australian defender Brendan Hamill.
Pogba, who has made 31 appearances for the Guinea national team, comes from French second-rate club FC Sochaux and has a wealth of experience having carried out his trade all over the world.
The 31-year-old started his career in Spain, where he was part of the youth academy at Celta Vigo. He later moved to France with CS Sedan before making a real impression at Saint Etienne, where he spent six years.
He helped the club get promoted to Ligue 1 and played 66 games for the club in the French top league. Pogba later had spells in Turkey and the United States of America before returning to France with FC Sochaux.
The central defender was a fixture with the national team and played six times for Guinea in 2021.
Pogba is back in good shape with ATK Mohun Bagan and is set to bolster the team’s bid for a first Indian Super League (ISL) title after two near misses.
The 31-year-old’s experience and leadership at the back will be a real asset to Juan Ferrando’s squad, who hope his squad keeps more clean sheets in ISL 2022-23. With a lot of firepower up front, a strong defensive unit could make next season very difficult to beat the Mariners.
ATK Mohun Bagan has already signed Ashique Kuruniyan, Asish Rai and Larlrinliana Hnamte in the transfer window.
Earlier this week, ATK Mohun Bagan signed Australian A-League star defender Brendan Hamill for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 season.
The Sydney-born 29-year-old defender began his career playing in Australia’s youth academies and lower division clubs, making his professional debut with Melbourne Heart FC (now renamed Melbourne City FC) in 2010.
After spending two years with Melbourne City FC, the defender moved to South Korean football league K-League 1 side Seongnam FC in 2012. The defender played in K-League 1 for two years but was unable to achieve the desired results there. (ANI)
