Attacker with knife kills 1, injures 5 in German asylum

BERLIN (AP) — An attacker with a knife stabbed several people at a shelter for asylum seekers in southern Germany, killing one man and injuring at least five people, the German news agency dpa reported Monday.

The attacker, reportedly a resident of the shelter, knocked on the doors of the rooms of the building in Kressbronn, on Lake Constance, on Sunday evening. When residents opened up, he stabbed them, dpa reported.

One man died immediately from his injuries, a seriously injured man was flown to a hospital and four other injured were taken to hospital by ambulance. It was not immediately clear whether other people were injured.

Police officers detained a 31-year-old man, whose name was not mentioned in accordance with Germany’s privacy policy, in front of the asylum seekers’ shelter. Forensic specialists investigated the scene of the accident Monday morning.
