President Joe Biden celebrated the US Food and Drug Administration’s approval of Covid-19 vaccines for children under five as a relief for parents.
The FDA announced Friday that vaccines for young children have now been officially approved.
“Many parents, carers and clinicians have been waiting for a vaccine for younger children and this action will help protect children up to 6 months of age. As we have seen in older age groups, we expect vaccines for younger children to protect against the most serious consequences of COVID-19, such as hospitalization and death,” Commissioner Robert Califf said in a statement. “Those entrusted with the care of children can have confidence in the safety and effectiveness of these COVID-19 vaccines and rest assured that the agency has thoroughly reviewed the data.”
