Bodies of two of three missing children found in Lake Minnesota

VADNAIS HEIGHTS, Minn. (AP) – The bodies of two young children have been recovered in a Minnesota lake and searchers are still searching for a third they fear may have drowned intentionally.

Meanwhile, the children’s father has passed away hours earlier in another location and their mother is missing. Names have not been released.

The series of events began Friday morning when the father was found dead in a mobile home park in the town of Maplewood, near Minneapolis. The police determined that the woman had left with the children and started a search.

Maplewood Police Lieutenant Joe Steiner said around 4 p.m. Friday that the woman’s car was found near Vadnais Lake. The children’s shoes were found on the bank.

The body of a child was found on Friday evening during a search in the lake. A second body was found overnight. Seekers from various organizations were busy on Saturday looking for the third, as well as the mother.

Authorities believe all three children were under the age of 5.

“There is nothing more tragic than the loss of young children,” Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher said at a news conference Friday. He called the dead a “probably triple homicide.”
