Bruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa are Official Instagram Grandparents

The bonds that bind have expanded into a new generation. Sam SpringsteenArguably the only Jersey City firefighter with both parents in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this week welcomed a girl with his partner. He is the youngest of Bruce Springsteen and Patty Scialfa‘s kids, and the first to transform the Grammy, Oscar, Tony, Oscar and Golden Globe winner from The Boss into The Gramps.

“Walking the baby,” Scialfa, backing singer and guitarist for the E Street Band (and an artist herself) wrote while uploading two images to Instagram. The first is a black and white photo of the new parents (probably walking through New Jersey’s horse country in Colts Neck), and the second is a photo of young Lily Harper Springsteen herself. (Look at those little bear mitts!)

Many notable friends of Springsteen and Scialfa were quick to congratulate. Among them were Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello (who has been with Bruce a few times), Jill Vedder (Pearl Jam’s wife) Eddie Vedder), and model Christie Turlington.

“That’s great good news grandma,” wrote Amy Aiello Lofgrenwife of E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren.

Sam Springsteen, 28, graduated from Monmouth County Fire Academy in 2014. Before his current stint in Jersey City, he served in Colts Neck, Long Branch (where his old man lived when he wrote “Born to Run”) and North Wildwood, a beach community that can safely be called “heavy Springsteen country.” Not much is known about his partner, but here’s another lovely photo of the two youngsters from Patti’s Instagram (and you can check out the engagement ring too.)

In addition to being a cool rocking grandma, the little girl has a grandpa with a Presidential Medal of Freedom, Kennedy Center Honor, over 135 million records sold, and his own Broadway show. The newborn also has a music programmer/producer uncle, Evan Springsteenand an Olympic medalist aunt, Jessica Springsteen.

Last summer Jessica rode the Belgian Warmblood stallion in Tokyo Don Juan van de Dankhoeve to a silver medal in show jumping with Team USA.

With Bruce’s hit show Springsteen on Broadway (in which Patti usually appeared) now decided, the new grandparents will soon be preparing for a massive world tour with the E Street Band. The show starts on February 1, 2023 in Tampa and ends on July 25 in Monza, Italy. Good luck getting tickets to the Madison Square Garden show on April 1, but know that a second North American leg will be announced soon for August.

Here are three live clips of E Street at work, to inspire you to start saving now.
