Alice Capsey and Freya Kemp have been selected in England’s Women’s T20 squad for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham this summer.

There are the first international calls for teenagers Capsey and Kemp, while Issy Wong gets the chance to represent her country in her home town – after being included in England’s T20 squad for the first time.

“We now have players in the national game raising their hands for selection, which is a testament to the regional game, and we have real power in depth, and that’s so important.”

England head coach Lisa Keightley

“We have chosen what we believe to be our best T20 squad. We have one eye on taking our T20 game further, but we believe this squad gives us the best chance of success in the Commonwealth Games – and that’s something to be really excited by it,” said head coach Lisa Keightley.

“T20 cricket and women’s cricket in general is constantly evolving – and to put ourselves in a position to win global tournaments we need to keep going, be aggressive, be dynamic and part of our roster is about embracing that. Likewise, we have selected players who are flexible and adaptable, fit into a number of roles and give us the most options for individual matchups.

“It’s really exciting that we have so much competition for places. Of course it’s hard for those who miss out, it’s never fun not being selected in a selection, but we’re not used to making such difficult decisions and they are part out of the game and indicate the progress of the game.

“We now have players in the national game raising their hands for selection, which is a testament to the regional game, and we have real power in depth, and that’s so important.”
