FC Barcelona said on Thursday it has extended French international Ousmane Dembele’s contract for a further two years after his previous contract expired last June.

Thus, the link between Barcelona and Dembele will remain until 2024, putting an end to speculation about the future of the French national team player.

Barcelona coach Xabi Hernandez had Dembele excluded from the squad amid controversy surrounding the expiration and renewal of his contract before the player returned to the team last February and finished the season by appearing in 32 games across all competitions.

In the Spanish League, Dembélé, 24, scored one goal and created 13 scoring opportunities, while his team finished second at the end of the season.

Dembele joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 at Barcelona and appeared in 150 games with the Catalan club, scoring 32 goals and creating 34 scoring opportunities.

He won the Spanish League twice with the team and the King of Spain Cup twice in five years.

In preparation for next season, Barcelona strengthened the squad by signing Brazilian winger Rafinha from Leeds United on Wednesday, the third deal the club has signed this summer after signing Frank Kessie and Andreas Christensen.
