Former Manchester United ace Lee Sharpe has claimed that while the club will miss Cristiano Ronaldo’s goals, they could be ready for a brighter future. Ronaldo’s current contract with United expires in June 2023.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio RomanoRonaldo has expressed his wish to leave Manchester United this summer. The 37-year-old superstar, who returned to the Juventus club last summer, has yet to appear for the Red Devils’ preparation season. The Portuguese superstar cited “personal/family matter” as the reason for his absence.
Although Ronaldo remains a ruthless goalscorer in the latter part of his career. He scored 24 times in 38 appearances for Manchester United last season and emerged as their leading goalscorer.
On Ronaldo’s future at the club, Sharpe admitted the Red Devils would miss his goals, but claimed his departure could be a blessing in disguise.
In a candid conversation with Bettors, the former England international said:
“As for the team, they’re going to have a hard time because of the number of goals he’s scoring for the team, but because of his age I think they’ll be able to bring in someone who’s a little younger and could potentially do that.” to play.” front foot and get the ball back and play the high press game, which Ronaldo is a bit old to play.
“Disappointing in a way, but could ultimately benefit the team.”
Over the course of two spells at Old Trafford, Ronaldo made 330 appearances in competitions, scoring 142 goals and providing 71 assists. With the club he won three Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.
Joining a rival English club could tarnish Cristiano Ronaldo’s legacy at Manchester United
According to 90-minute Graeme Bailey, Manchester United have accepted that they will not have last season’s top scorer at their disposal.
Knowing how ambitious the superstar is comes as no surprise. The moment the Red Devils missed out on a top four spot, they probably lost all hope of holding onto the former Real Madrid man.
Ronaldo’s love affair with the Champions League is well documented and we think United fans wouldn’t mind if he joins a foreign club that will play in European competition.
Switching to a direct rival, however, could make him a less-than-loved figure. Chelsea, who are reportedly interested in him, could offer him a real shot at silverware next season, but we’re not sure it’s worth risking his legacy.
