Does Collingwood Young Gun Nick Daicos Have The Best Debut Season Ever?

Collingwood young gun Nick Daicos continued his stellar debut season against Adelaide on Saturday.

Freshman Magpie played with a career-high 40 disposals and three goals to help his side beat the Crows by five points.

Collingwood coach Craig McRae stated after the game that the 19-year-old is putting together the best first year he has seen in footy.

Brownlow medalist Adam Cooney says Daicos has an All-Australian season and tips him for finishing high in Collingwood’s best and fairest.

Daicos is also the clear favorite to win the Rising Star award.

“It’s the best first year of an AFL player that I can definitely remember – and possibly ever,” Cooney said. SEN SA Breakfast.

“He will be an All-Australian in his first year, maybe even win the best and fairest from Collingwood in his first year.

“What he does so well is he knows when to defend, but he’s also so good at reading the play and knowing when to pull out and help.

“He uses the ball really well too – 40 at the weekend – he didn’t waste too many and he’s not afraid to bite it back through the middle of the ground.

“I’m not sure how much better he can get. How many games will he have in his career after 40 and three goals?”

Cooney added: “Nick Daicos is clearly going to win the Rising Star.”

Andrew Hayes, co-host of SEN SA Breakfast, also praised Daicos: “It was a ridiculous game this weekend.

“He may be putting together a season that makes history.”

Daicos, who was selected last year with pick No.4 as father-son in last year’s National Draft, has an average of 26.6 possession and a tick below four defensive rebounds per game.
