Elon Musk is seeking to backtrack on his $44 billion bid to buy Twitter, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday. Attorneys for the billionaire leader of Tesla and SpaceX said in a letter to Twitter’s chief legal officer that the social media company failed to provide the necessary data Musk sought about fake or spam accounts on the platform. The letter states that Twitter is “materially violating” its agreement with Musk and has made “false and misleading statements” that Musk relied on in entering into the agreement to buy the company. Twitter CEO Bret Taylor tweeted that the company is committed to closing the deal and will take legal action against Musk if necessary to enforce the merger agreement.
