New Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was able to see some of his players in training for the first time on Monday.
It marks the beginning of a road that fans hope will be long and lead them to glory. The first impression counts, especially given the situation the club finds itself in.
But Ten Hag does not have to do much to get off to a better start than at Ajax. The 52-year-old joined the Dutch giants of great rivals FC Utrecht in 2017 with the Amsterdam team in disarray after a turbulent period.

Fans were already dissatisfied and Ten Hag immediately threw fuel on the fire rather naively. According to Eurosport, he arrived at Ajax on his first day with a suitcase from FC Utrecht. It was a move that would have made Ajax fans ‘hate’ Ten Hag before he had time to crawl under the desk. It took them a while to accept him as their boss, but their anger turned to pride as he started to get results.
Supporters are eagerly awaiting his first appearance as their team’s new manager and are excited about his arrival. Ten Hag has been promised time by the Old Trafford stalwarts, who recognize that his resurrection of United will likely be a long-term task.
And unlike at Ajax, he made a good first impression during his debut press conference, which has further encouraged the fans. He was spotted arriving for United’s training session in Carrington on Monday morning and there were no signs of rival memorabilia on him, which certainly means he’s already off to a better start than with his former employers.
