Former Lone Wolf bikie Yusuf Nazlioglu is in serious condition in hospital after being shot multiple times in a parking lot in Sydney’s west.
Investigative sources say the attack was targeted and may be related to the recent spate of shootings that have rocked the city since October 2020.
The ABC has been informed that Mr Nazlioglu was shot multiple times at approximately 7pm in Walker Street, Rhodes and taken by ambulance to Westmead Hospital.
Police have cordoned off the parking lot near the Rhodes Central shopping center.
In 2020, Mr Nazlioglu was found not guilty of the murder of Comanchero boss Mick Hawi, who was shot dead in the Fitness First parking lot in Rockdale in February 2018.
CCTV captured 37-year-old Hawi being shot at close range in the head, face and shoulder while sitting in his car by a person dressed all in black.
Nazilioglu was accused of being the shooter. After the shooting, police found a burnt-out Mercedes that had been used as a getaway car.
Weeks later, the court was told that a balaclava had been found in a second vehicle – a silver Toyota Aurion – that contained DNA matching that of Mr Nazlioglu.
At that trial, the jury was also told that both men were once close friends, but the relationship had deteriorated after Hawi was “embarrassed” by Mr Nazlioglu’s behavior during a fishing trip on the Central Coast and brought him home. ordered.
The altercation was suggested as a possible motive for the murder.
Nazlioglu was acquitted after a three-week trial in the NSW Supreme Court, where the jury deliberated for about four days.
