Frenkie de Jong leaves Barcelona for the “Red Devils” circles

United agreed to pay Barcelona €75 million in addition to €10 million for 25-year-old de Young, the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

De Jong, whose contract with Barcelona runs until June 2026, is to be approved to move to the Premier League team, with reports indicating De Jong has so far been reluctant to leave the Camp Nou.

However, a Barcelona official familiar with the agreement said coach Xavi Hernandez told De Jong that he would not be part of his team’s starting lineup.

Barcelona would prefer to reach an agreement before the team leaves on Saturday for a pre-season tour of the United States.

The club worked to cut its salaries while reducing its debt. The club official said De Jong’s salary was no longer in line with his new financial priorities.

De Jong has played 140 matches, most of them regularly at the start, since he switched from Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam for 75 million euros in 2019.
