Healthy eating is all about balance

A guide to eating healthy

Growing up, we were introduced to the “eating plate” which is divided into four sections labeled fruits, grains, vegetables, and proteins. It was meant to help us eat a balanced, healthy meal. But how many of us have since taken this seriously and incorporated it into our daily lives? I am here to let you know that it is imperative to have a well balanced diet in your life and there are many health benefits associated with it. Those benefits are that it will increase your energy, improve your body function, strengthen your immune system and prevent weight gain according to Narayana Health.

Below is a guide to get you started eating a balanced diet…

  • Eat 3 meals a day: Don’t skip any meal as it lowers your metabolism which can lead to weight gain. Eat two snacks between the three meals and never skip breakfast because as they say it is the most important meal of the day as it fuels you for the obstacles of the day.

  • Simple meal prep: Meal prepping can be as simple as you want, try eating more raw vegetables like a salad so you don’t have to cook as much. Also snack on fruit between meals.

  • Do not eat too much: Eating over your limit can upset your stomach so that you don’t feel your best. Stop eating once you hit the wall or feel full to maintain your weight and feel good.

  • Stay Hydrated: Always carry a water bottle with you wherever you go, whether that be to the gym, to class, to the store, always drink as much water as possible.

  • Remove fat: When cooking, it is best to trim all the fat from the meat you are using. Remove the skin from the chicken as well as the white fatty parts. Even though people may like sharing it, it’s best for your health not to consume it.
