Former Gold Coast Sun Dee Heslop will be a lion in 2022 after being drafted by the Club at Pick 57 in Wednesday night’s 2022 NAB AFLW Draft.
The 20-year-old was drafted by the Suns at Pick 69 in their inaugural 2020 season and played 23 games before being taken off the list at the end of the 2022 season.
With the ability to float in the back line or float forward to take on the midfield play, Heslop will add another layer of depth and versatility to the Lions squad.
“Dee is a mid-sized defender/midfielder and I know someone I’ve known for a number of years and coached her through her Queensland Under 18 years,” said Head Coach Craig Starcevich.
“She has always shown a great appetite for the physical side of the game by winning a lot of inside ball, but she is also a very good performer for her size and a great ball spreader on foot.
“She has been in the AFLW for three seasons and has shown glimpses of these traits. We’re excited to see how far she can take her game in our program.”
Dee was part of the first-ever Queensland U18 side to beat Victoria Metro in the 2018 NAB AFLW U18 Championships and will be reuniting with former Queensland coach Craig Starcevich, as well as teammates Nat Grider, Belle Dawes, Lily Postlethwaite, Zimmorlei Farquharson, Taylor Smith, Jade Ellenger and Jesse Wardlaw.
