How do you manage to kidnap a star that the clubs are vying for? The answer is simple, that his agent is affiliated with one of the competing clubs, and this is what Chelsea did by kidnapping Brazilian winger Rafinha (25), the Leeds United star from the clutches of European clubs, using his relationship with his agent Deco, the former star of Barcelona and Chelsea.
Chelsea’s bid for the Brazilian winger reached £60million, a price befitting Leeds and unlike the £30million offer Arsenal made which was rejected by Leeds last week.
Chelsea, with his new look, plans with owner Todd Boehle to put Rafinha and Manchester City star Raheem Sterling in the wings to fly them to the titles again.
A report revealed Chelsea’s interest in Rafinha since last January, but he expected to move to Barcelona because of the former Porto Alegre player’s love for the Catalan club.
Despite all the rumours, Barcelona was unable to make an offer for Rafinha due to his financial difficulties, and when Boehli realized that his London rivals Arsenal were in the running, he rushed with a tactical plan to pull the rug out. Gunners draw team.
Rafinha scored 11 goals last season and assisted 3 to avoid relegation.
Chelsea’s offer to the Brazilian put an end to rumors of the “Blues” wishing to include Barcelona star Dembele or Everton star Richarlison. And Leeds lost Calvin Phillips to Manchester City, who will present it Friday, but will raise more than £100m from the sale of Phillips and Rafinha.
The “Blues” are in further negotiations to exchange German winger Timo Werner or American Christian Bolsic as part of the deal to sign Dutch fullback Matthijs de Ligt.
