Jamie Chung used a surrogate because she was “terrified” that a pregnancy would hurt her career

Jamie Chung revealed that despite wanting children, she was “terrified” that getting pregnant would sideline her career completely.

In October last year, the actress and her husband Bryan Greenberg, welcomed twin boys into their family and now Chung tells what led to their decision to use a surrogate. In an interview with Todaythe Dexter: New Blood star said, “I was terrified of getting pregnant. I was terrified of putting my life on hold for over two years. In my industry, if you don’t work within a month of your last job, it feels like you’re quickly forgotten. Things move so quickly in what we do, so it’s a compromise we made as a couple.”

She added that one of the reasons she kept their pregnancy so private – although she publicly shared her experience freezing her eggs in 2019 – is that there is still so much stigma surrounding surrogacy. “I think there’s a bit of shame,” Chung admitted. “It’s still not very common and we weren’t ready for a verdict yet. We really just did it to protect ourselves. We announced things when we were ready.”

Chung first made a name for himself in 2004 on MTVs The Real World: San Diego and since then she has diligently plotted a real acting career for herself, most recently in a comedy called Meeting in which she co-stars alongside Jillian Bell and Chace Crawford† “People probably think, ‘Oh, she’s so vain. She didn’t want to get pregnant,’ and it’s a lot more complicated than that,” she explains. “For me personally, and I’ll leave it at that, it’s like I I’ve worked hard all my life to get to where I am. I don’t want to miss any opportunities. I don’t want to be angry.”

In January, the actress also opened up about experiencing postpartum depression as she made the “scary transition” of becoming a mother for the first time. She said People“Therapy really helped me prepare mentally for this lifestyle change and not be afraid to talk about certain issues because it’s not the first thing you want to say when you have kids. You don’t want to start with something negative or challenging, but I do think these postpartum depression problems are so real.” She continued, “I felt quite guilty about certain things I felt. And just knowing it’s normal and it’s just because you’re overwhelmed and you’re full of fear and it’s a scary transition for some people.
