Jason Holder returns as the 18-man squad from the West Indies for ODI series against India.

The West Indies have announced an 18-man ODI squad for the upcoming three-game series against India at home. All-rounder Jason Holder has returned to the side after missing out on the series against Bangladesh, captained by Nicholas Pooran.

Both teams will compete for the CG United trophy, with games taking place July 22, 24 and 27 at the iconic Queen’s Park Oval. The tourists will be very confident after winning both whiteball series against England.

Chief selector Desmond Haynes said the West Indies are relieved to have Jason Holder back in their ranks, with the expectation that he will make significant contributions on and off the field. The former opener wants the players to show an improved display against India after their battle against Bangladesh.

Haynes said, as quoted by Windiescricket.com:

“As we all know Jason is one of the leading all-round cricketers in the world and we are delighted to have him back on the team. He will be refreshed, re-energized and ready to go and we can show his brilliance on the pitch and meaningful contributions outside the field.

“We had a very challenging three games against Bangladesh in Guyana so we will try to recover when we face India in the conditions in Trinidad. We have seen some growth in some players but overall we need to regroup and get better playing against the Indians.”

Pooran’s men struggled against Bangladesh, losing all three games in the ODI series. The Bangladesh spinners made good use of the conditions to outplay the hosts cheaply in all three matches. It is worth noting that the West Indies could not pass 200 in any ODI.
