Jordan De Goey Bali Scandal $25k Fine – Collingwood Football Club Statement

The Collingwood Football Club strongly condemns the disrespectful behavior of player Jordan De Goey, as seen in footage shot in Bali, where he chose to meet up mid-season.

Collingwood CEO Mark Anderson said the club is deeply disappointed with Jordan’s behavior, which showed a lack of respect for women.

“The very strong position of our club is that disrespect for women in any form is never acceptable and we strongly condemn it,” Anderson said.

“Jordan’s actions reflected in the vision shared on social media are actions that we as a football club do not accept and we are extremely disappointed to see him put himself in this position.

“We have talked to Jordan for a long time and he understands the gravity of the situation.”

Jordan is currently undergoing a counseling program that he began earlier this year with the club psychologist to further increase his awareness of himself and improve his behavior and decision-making off the football field.

In addition to that counseling program, Jordan will receive further behavioral education for his behavior.

Jordan has also been given a $25,000 penalty, suspended until the end of the 2022 season from the club for well-behaved until then.

“While we do not condone his conduct, we will continue to provide the professional and personal support Jordan needs to ensure he lives consistently and demonstrates the values we expect at Collingwood,” said Mr. Anderson.

“In closing, I would like to reiterate that our club has very strong values, including respect, tolerance and a condemnation of irresponsible behaviour. We expect everyone at our club to uphold these values without compromise.”

Jordan De Goey has taken responsibility and has apologized for his actions and the impact they have on the community.

“I unreservedly apologize to Collingwood Football Club, its members, supporters and the wider community for my conduct in Bali and I accept full responsibility for my actions,” said De Goey.

“The actions shown in the video footage are disrespectful and I accept that I have violated the Club’s trust in me by allowing me to go abroad in the middle of the season.

“I fully accept that as an AFL player I have a unique leadership role in the community and with that role comes responsibility.

“My actions were not up to the standards expected of me as a person, as an AFL football player and as a representative of the Collingwood Football Club.

“I have worked hard this year to gain confidence and confidence in me to make better decisions and through no one’s fault but my own, I have undone that trust.

“I was diagnosed with ADHD late last year and I’m trying to become more aware of why I make mistakes that I do. I made another mistake – this is an ongoing journey for me – and I remain absolutely committed to change.

“I will seek further support to take the right and necessary steps to learn and improve as a person.

“Again, my apologies for my disrespectful behavior. I understand that I have let a lot of people down and that I have a lot of work to do to rebuild trust.

“I am determined to make myself the best person I can be and I believe the best opportunity I have to do that is in an environment where I have the support of my teammates and the club.”

The AFL supports the Collingwood Football Club’s decision to impose a $25,000 fine (suspended) on Jordan DeGoey after social media content of him engaging in disrespectful behavior in Bali was posted last week.

Jordan’s behavior in those social media posts was not up to the standards we want our game to stand for and his behavior sets a bad example that could be interpreted by others as something that’s okay when it definitely isn’t.

The AFL would like to reiterate that all AFL players have a responsibility to themselves, their clubs and their professional careers to make the right choices when it comes to appropriate conduct, particularly in a public environment, including on all their social media platforms, and especially in relationship with their behavior towards women.

“His actions were not acceptable and were not of a standard that the game or the public expects of AFL players,” said Football Executive General Manager Andrew Dillon.

As part of the sanction imposed by the club, DeGoey will also undergo further behavioral education for his conduct.

The AFL believes that the club has duly dealt with the matter and will not take any further action in this case.
