Liverpool signs up-and-coming talent Calvin Ramsey

Liverpool announce the signing of 18-year-old Scottish right-back Calvin Ramsey to five-year contract from Aberdeen

European number two Liverpool announced on Sunday that it had signed the emerging talent of Scottish right-back Calvin Ramsey (18) to a five-year contract with Aberdeen.

The deal for the Under-21 Scotland international, who several clubs were looking to sign, amounted to almost €5 million, in addition to €2.9 million in bonuses.

“It was a dream come true to play for Aberdeen and now play for one of the biggest clubs, if not the biggest in the world,” said Ramsey, who was named Player of the Year by the Scottish Press Editors Association.

“It’s not just a big club, they give young players a chance in the first team,” he added, referring to the brilliance of his new colleagues, Trent Alexander-Arnold or Harvey Elliott, who signed with the ” Reds” at age 16.

Ramsey has defended Aberdeen’s colors in 33 games in two seasons, scoring one goal and providing 9 assists.

For his part, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp expressed his joy at signing Ramsey, telling the club’s official website: “Calvin is a young player so we are very happy” to sign him.

And he added: “He has a lot of potential. He is currently only 18, although he will be 19 soon, but he has played many games with the first team for a defender like him.”

He concluded: “He is athletic, intelligent, confident, has a good technical talent, is always decisive and eager to learn. There are many qualities to admire.”

It is Liverpool’s third deal before the start of the new season after signing Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunes (Benfica) and Portuguese midfielder Fabio Carvalho (Fulham).
