The Logie Awards are back in action! After a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2022 awards are back on track and better than ever.
It has been over 60 years since the Logie Awards were first broadcast on Australian television. Just before this year’s ceremony, let’s take a look back at the history of the iconic awards show… and see what we can expect from 2022.
Why are the Logie Awards called the Logies?
The late Australian television legend Graham Kennedy coined the term ‘Logies’ in 1960, in honor of John Logie Baird.
Baird, a Scottish engineer, was the first to invent the world’s first working television. Since the award show is all about TV, the name just makes sense!

Often referred to as Australian TV’s Night of Nights, The Logies is our answer to the Emmys. It’s an evening to celebrate Australian television, and the actors and shows we all love.
When, where and what time is the 2022 Lodging and how can I view it?
The 62nd TV Week Logie Awards will be held on Sunday, June 19, broadcast on Channel Nine.
The Lodges are held in the Star Gold Coast Entertainment Resort district on the Gold Coast.
David Campbell, Leila McKinnon and Renee Bargh will present the red carpet from 7 p.m. ahead of the awards ceremony. The ceremony starts at 7:30 PM.

Who has won the most Gold Logies?
Graham Kennedy and Ray Martin share the record for the most Gold Logies, with no fewer than five each. Next, Lisa McCune and the late Bert Newton have four each, then Daryl Sommers and Rove McManus have three each.
Who has won the most Logies?
Ray Martin has won the most Logies, with an impressive 15 awards to his name. Right behind him are Rove McManus and Lisa McCune, who each have 10.
Home and away is the most awarded show, with no fewer than 43 Logie awards to its name. After being close behind Tonight in Melbourne with 43 lodgings, Hey Hey It’s Saturday with 34, The Mike Walsh Show with 31, and the now cancelled Neighbors with 31.

The Logies have had a number of great guests over the years, from A direction and Beyonce until Robin Williams and John Travolta.

Jessica Mauboy will also grace the stage this year during Logies, to perform her new single “Automatic”.
Who is the host and presenter of Logies 2022?
Since 2012, the Logies have had a series of presenters instead of a single host.
This year’s awards will no doubt be a bleak affair after the death of Logies’ loyal host, Bert Newton, in 2021. Newton has hosted the awards 19 times over the years.
To honor the iconic Australian entertainer, a new award is being presented in his honor. Newton’s wife, patticwill present the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter.

When were the first Logie Awards presented?
The very first Logies ceremony was in 1959 and there were eight categories.
At the time, the awards were simply known as the ‘TV Week Awards’ – a reference to the weekly Australian TV-focused magazine with which the Logies is still associated today.
While millions of Aussies are familiar with the prestigious Gold Logie, the night of the night top prize on Australian television used to be known as the Star of the Year. It was won by Graham Kennedy from Tonight in Melbourne.

When were the last Logies?
The Accommodations have been canceled for the past two years due to the COVID pandemic. The last time the ceremony was held was in 2019. That evening the Golden Logie was won by Tom Gleesonwho will be hitting the gong again this year.
