The return of the Belgian international striker to Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku, to Inter, the number two in the Italian football league, has become a “possible option”, but “there are still difficulties,” Nerazzurri director Giuseppe Marotta said on Monday.
The director of the Lombard club confirmed to “Rai Radio 1”: “The Lukaku option is possible, but there are still difficulties and we have to wait for the success of this case or not.”
Morata, whose team relinquished the league title to arch-rival Milan, added: “It is our duty to build a competitive team, while respecting the financial balance.” From there, we conduct investigations and negotiations. We must strive to explore all avenues without fear that they will not be found.
Lukaku, one of Inter’s most prominent weapons in the 2021 season, joined Chelsea last summer on a deal estimated at €115million.
But the 29-year-old, who has a contract with the London club until 2026, did not hide his annoyance last December at not being given enough time at Stamford Bridge and expressed regret for leaving Inter.
According to Italian newspapers, Chelsea may be accepting his player’s departure on a paid loan of €10 million excluding bonuses.
Regarding the rest of the transfer deals, Marotta confirmed that negotiations with Argentinian Paulo Dybala, who left Juventus, are continuing, making the departure of the latter’s top goalscorer, Lautaro Martinez, “the necessary element”.
He also confirmed the arrival of Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, whose contract with Italy’s Roma is expiring, and Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana, announced a few months ago.
He did not close the door on the departure of his Slovakian defender Milan Shkriniar, who is close to the French champions Paris Saint-Germain, and stressed the evaluation of “possible alternatives” to his position.
