Man killed in Springfield street shooting identified, authorities say – CBS Philly

SPRINGFIELD, Dad. (CBS) – Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting on Delaware County roads. Investigators say it was a traffic dispute.

Police are looking for the person who ran into a vehicle on a busy road in Springfield Township and fatally shot another driver. A bullet hole is visible in the windshield of the victim’s car, left on State Road/Route 1 near Meetinghouse Lane.

“It’s really unnerving and a bit scary,” said Jackie Washco, who heard the shooting.

It happened just before 8:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer says a man and woman in a dark-colored SUV stopped next to a white Toyota as they were both stopped in traffic.

The man, who was the passenger, then got out of the SUV and shot into the windshield of the Toyota, Stollsteimer said. The gunman then got back into the SUV and the female driver drove away.

“Actually, there were two victims in the vehicle,” Stollsteimer said. “One has been hit. It’s the driver, the man. There was also a passenger in the vehicle.”

Stollsteimer identified the victim as King Hua, a 54-year-old Vietnamese immigrant living in Springfield.

“We all work together,” Stollsteimer said. “The entire Delaware County law enforcement community has made it a priority to resolve this case and bring Mr. Hua’s killer to justice.”

Springfield Township Police Chief Joe Daly called the incident a “horrific, needless death of a person for nothing more than an imaginary traffic violation.”

“What we believe from witnesses, from what we hear from witnesses, this was a traffic accident involving a vehicle that was going slower than the rest of the traffic. That’s what this appears to be, nothing more,” Daly said. “Today a man was killed by driving his car too slowly during rush hour.”

Washko lives nearby and heard the shots. She says after the driver was shot, he lost control and hit another vehicle, which ended up in the middle of the road.

“It looked like he had been shot in the shoulder and the face, the left side,” Washco said.

You can see the damage on the right side of the car. The passenger then got out and ran to the nearest house.

“I go to check the door and a woman yells at me, she says ‘Help! Someone help. Call 112. My husband is dead.’ So I called 911,” Washko said.

A Good Samaritan who witnessed the chaos got out of her car and administered first aid to the driver until the ambulance arrived. But Hua succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

“Anyone who has seen anything, please step forward,” Stollsteimer said. “It may not mean much to you, but it could help investigators find out what happened here this morning and help us bring the culprit to justice.”

Police say the suspects were in a dark-colored SUV, but they don’t know the exact make, model or specific color.

“I’m going to hunt you and we’re going to lock you up,” Daly said.

There is no danger to the community.

Police are trying to get surveillance video from nearby homes in hopes it can provide some clues as to the killer’s identity.

“This is a tragedy that has broken the peace in this city today,” said Jeff Rudolph, commissioner of Springfield Township. “And I must tell the residents that we will not stop, as prosecutor Stollsteimer said until this crime is solved.”
