Mirror: Chelsea is targeting Manchester City striker if Lukaku leaves

English press releases have revealed that Chelsea FC intends to set its radar on one of the Manchester City strikers this summer, in the event that Belgian Romelu Lukaku is off the job.

Lukaku returned to Chelsea from Inter Milan last summer but failed to make the impact expected of him at Stamford Bridge.

This has sparked speculation about Lukaku’s future, especially that the player wants to return to Inter Milan, which is the same wish of the Italian club.

And Inter Milan have already been in talks with Chelsea in recent days about the possibility of reinstating Lukaku’s services, which the London club welcomed but loaned.

Chelsea will speak again with Inter CEO Beppe Marotta on Sunday in a bid to reach a compromise that will see Lukaku return to the San Siro, where financial compensation has not yet been agreed.

And the English newspaper Mirror reported that new Chelsea owner Todd Boley would then work to boost his club’s interest in persuading Manchester City to sell player Raheem Sterling.

The Premier League champions have not yet been able to reach an agreement with Sterling on the extension of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City now face the prospect of losing the 27-year-old at nothing when his current contract expires next year.

And while Sterling will be free to pursue his ambitions to play abroad, the prospect of a return to his London roots is also attractive.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is a big fan of Raheem Sterling and would welcome the departure of Lukaku.
