The global mobile games market has fallen 10 percent year-on-year in the App Store and Google Play, despite the increasing number of downloaded games.
Mobile gaming generated an estimated A$9.4 billion in player spend in both stores in June 2022, down 10 percent from the previous June.
The US is the world leader in revenue, spending A$2.64 billion, representing 28.4 percent of the global total. Japan followed with 19.3 percent, followed by China with 18.7 percent.
Since China doesn’t use Google Play, the actual numbers are suspected to be much higher.
A total of 4.6 billion games were downloaded in both app stores this month, an increase of 2.2 percent from the previous year.
India leads this number, with 844.8 million downloads, 18.4 percent of the global total, followed by the US at 9 percent and Brazil at 8 percent.
Like pay TV subscriptions, India pays much less for its mobile downloads, resulting in the discrepancy between the increase in the number of downloads and the decrease in global spending.
