League Plus – Former Real Madrid player Roberto Carlos revealed his role in convincing the Royal Club to continue Marcelo rather than loan him out.
The 34-year-old Brazilian player said goodbye to Real Madrid yesterday after many fond memories of the Royal Club and the major tournaments he achieved, as he arrived in front of Carlos as a player and left and Roberto as an administrator.
Carlos said in his statements to the Spanish radio “Onda Cero”: “It was a strange day with Marcelo’s departure, I practically watched him grow up, after that I was not there anymore, but I was with him in his first period. “
He added: “I was not at Marcelo’s farewell party, I knew he was talking about me and my other colleagues, I hugged him since his arrival in Spain and tried to help him at any time, and today there were many great feelings in the statement room.”
And he added: “When Marcelo came in 2006, Real Madrid wanted to loan him out, but I asked the president at the time to leave him with us to find out more and find the place he came for.”
He emphasized: “I was available 24 hours after I gave him my phone number, and I always tried to help him, whenever he needed me, I was there for him.”
He concluded: “Marcelo will now realize everything he has done with this shirt. He surpassed me in his championships with Real Madrid and I did not expect that, but I am very happy with him and the Brazilian people can be proud of the two best left backs for the biggest club in the world.”
