Oti Mabuse reflects on her least favorite strict partnership: ‘We just didn’t understand each other’

Oti Mabuse has reflected on her least favorite Strictly Come Dancing partnership, admitting that she and a contestant “didn’t understand each other” during her time together.

The star appeared as a professional dancer on the BBC ballroom competition for seven series before announcing her departure earlier this year.

During her tenure, Oti won the show twice with soap star Kelvin Fletcher and cartoonist Bill Bailey, with whom she developed a close partnership.

However, in an upcoming appearance on The Lateish Show With Mo Gilligan, Oti was reportedly asked which of her partners she liked the least.

According to The Sun, she said: “Okay, they weren’t the worst, and I didn’t think they were bad.

“We just didn’t understand each other and it didn’t last long. It was my first celebrity. I say Anthony Ogogo.”

Oti, who was linked to the boxer in the 2015 series, continued: “We just didn’t know each other that well. He came in with an injury, so it was very, very difficult for him. That is it. Yes, voted out first.”

During his time on Strictly, Anthony denied tabloid claims he and Oti disagreed, claiming they “couldn’t have more fun together”.

Since finishing Strictly in December, Oti has been featured on the Dancing On Ice judging panel and has also turned her hand to presenting.

After guest-starring on Morning Live and Steph’s Packed Lunches, she also helped on the recent ITV dating show Romeo & Duet.

In an interview with You magazine, Oti explained that she wanted to leave Strictly on “the peak” and while still happy with the show.

She said: “When I came to Britain, I said to myself, ‘My dream is to win Strictly.’ And I did, and it’s been such a great seven years, but I did what I had to do.

“I feel so emotional. I lived my best life on that show and it gave me the career I have now, but you have to know when it’s the right time to get off that wave and try new things.”

The Lateish Show With Mo Gilligan airs Fridays at 10pm on Channel 4.
