Ottawa officer killed in single-vehicle accident Tuesday

Flags are at half-mast outside Ottawa Police Department buildings after a city police officer was killed in an accident that happened while they were off duty on Tuesday.

“It is with great sadness that we share that one of our members passed away last night after a single-vehicle collision,” the police said on social media on Wednesday morning. “The incident occurred out of service.

“Flags at all our buildings are flown at half-mast in honor of our friend and colleague.”

At about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday evening, the off-duty officer was involved in a serious collision with a motorcycle on Regional Road 174 eastbound at Highway 417 interchange. Roads were closed during the investigation into the collision.

Ottawa Police said Wednesday that Ontario Provincial Police is leading the investigation.
