A Queensland mayor has apologized after being caught driving under the influence.
Redlands City Council Mayor Karen Williams admitted she drank “several glasses of wine” before driving her vehicle through Cleveland, where she crashed into a tree Thursday night.
“Last night I made a serious error of judgment and started driving after drinking several glasses of wine,” Williams told 9News.
“I am deeply sorry for my actions and incredibly grateful that no one else was involved or injured.
“I will seek advice and continue to assist the police in their investigation.”
Police were called to the scene of the accident at the intersection of Queen and Wellington Street around 9 p.m., where Williams was conducting a breath test.
Police confirmed she suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital in Redlands for treatment.
No one else was injured in the crash.
