The Logan McDonald from Sydney Swans has been named the Round 12 NAB Rising Star nominee.

McDonald kicked three goals and two behinds in the Sydney Swan’s 12-point victory over reigning Prime Minister Melbourne.

His third goal in the fourth quarter – a snap from 40 yards – narrowed Melbourne’s lead to just one point and secured a come-from-behind victory.

The 20-year-old also had 16 sales, six disputed possessions, five marks and three within the 1950s.

In the post-game press conference, senior coach John Longmire praised McDonald and his colleagues at the forefront for their performance in the absence of Lance Franklin.

“Sam (Reid) played well as a veteran player in our vanguard. Logan (McDonald) was able to do it, we had a bit of an even spread there,” Longmire said.

“Lance (Franklin) clearly makes the difference for us, but sometimes you have to find a way without the good players and we were able to do that tonight.”

McDonald made his opening round debut of the 2021 season against the Brisbane Lions, where he scored three goals.

The key forward was drafted by Perth Football Club with the fourth selection in the 2020 NAB AFL National Draft.
