To remind Path of the Midnight Sun† Let’s refresh your memory.
A ROM hack for the original fire emblem called Midnight Sun was created by solo developer Alfred Kamon and was released to much fanfare in 2014, with approximately 100,000 downloads before being canceled in 2017. While this was very sad, it wasn’t the last thing we would see.
As reported by my box‘s Luke Plunkett back in 2019, the project then came back to life as a full-fledged game developed exclusively by Kamon, with a name change to Path of the Midnight Sun and some help from music, animation, and art contractors. At the time, the project was just a Kickstarter project.
Fast forward a month, and Path of the Midnight Sun was fully funded on Kickstarter. Over the next few months, the release date was moved from 2020 to 2021 as the team worked on refining the game. Fast forward to now, and Studio Daimon has released a brand new trailer and Q3 2022 release window for PC and Mac. See!
This is Kamon’s first full game under his Milan-based Studio Diamon and is developed in Live2D. It’s pretty cool to watch a ROM hack for the original Game Boy Advance game turn just that into a full-fledged game with voice acting, a full soundtrack, and tons of depth.
Naturally, Path of the Midnight Sun is still very much influenced by the fire emblem series using the Story and Hardcore modes and the general tactical RPG elements, but it also seems to branch out as both a dating simulator and a visual novel. It’s been quite a journey for Studio Daimon, but we’re really excited to see what’s in store for us. Also dogs.
Path of the Midnight Sun will be released for PC and Mac in Q3 2022, and you can wishlist it here on Steam.
