After Cody Rhodes’ brave performance in Hell in a Cell, Rikishi believes the 36-year-old’s WWE future looks bright. Roman Reigns’ legendary cousin also made a remarkable prediction.
Earlier this month, Rhodes battled through a legitimately torn pectoral muscle, beating Seth Rollins in the infernal structure. Before his unexpected injury, The American Nightmare looked like a likely contender for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, held by Rikishi’s cousin, Roman Reigns.
Speaking on Sony Sports Network’s Extraaa Dhamaal show, Rikishi said Rhodes could still hit his world title goal somewhere down the road:
“Once he heals this injury, I’m sure he’ll work twice as hard to make a full comeback. The future looks bright. I see Cody Rhodes as the heavyweight champion there at some point in the future, you know? The champion, period.”
While Rhodes’ mentality to win WWE’s top title is pretty obvious, it should be interesting to see if he dethrones Roman Reigns or anyone else to fulfill that prophecy.
A lot can happen before Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes becomes reality
In the RAW episode after Hell in a Cell, Rhodes was written off from television for a sneak attack from Seth Rollins. It remains unclear whether their feud will continue once The American Nightmare returns to action.
WWE’s injury update suggests he won’t be able to compete for nine months, so a potential showdown with Reigns may not happen anytime soon. Meanwhile, The Tribal Chief is ready to defend his gold against Riddle in the upcoming episode of SmackDown.
If Reigns retains his title, speculation suggests stars like Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton could do the following for a world championship. These men are capable enough to dethrone the leader of the Bloodline before Rhodes gets his final chance.
Regardless of what the WWE landscape may look like in a few months, the former AEW star’s clash against Reigns could draw a lot of attention with or without a title at stake.
