schmigadoon! Announces a second season and goes to Schmicago

schmigadoon! is far from schmigadon.

Apple TV+ announced Friday that the surreal musical comedy of five paul and Ken Daurio returns for another season of upbeat, lively showmanship and stuck-up tunes. Moreover, Tituss Burgess and Broadway stage fat Patrick Page will join the cast led by Keegan Michael Key and Cecily Strong as two modern city dwellers caught in a land of corny musical numbers. (Some of that corny is literal.)

While the first season parodied classic musicals like CarouselOklahomathe music manand yes, BrigadoonIt seems, according to Deadline’s report, that the new season will take us to “Schmicago”, a world based on musicals from the 1960s and 1970s. (Will we see Cecily Strong doing some sort of variation of the “Cell Block Tango”? We can only hope so.)

The whole gang from the first season is back on board, including the recent Oscar winner Ariana DeBoseDove CameronJaime CamilKristen ChenowethAlan CummingAnn HaradaJane Krakowskiand Aaron Tveit† Plus Martin Kort like the leprechaun.

The first season saw all six episodes directed by Addams Family and Men in black author Barry Sonnenfeld, which, as of this announcement, is not attached. (In an interview last year, Sonnenfeld joked about the psychological torment he suffered during the shoot: “I get up at 4 a.m., get picked up in two and can’t sleep because I sing ‘Corn Puddin’ non-stop.” )
