Several people have been displaced after a fire broke out at a mansion in Mississauga on Sunday afternoon.

The crews were called to 2869 Battleford Road, a three-storey multi-unit residence, just after 2 p.m. due to a major fire.

A firefighter was injured, but no nearby residents were injured, authorities said. They added that the fire caused extensive damage to the roof and attic.

The cause and origin of the fire is unknown.

A total of 36 units in the complex suffered fire, smoke and/or water damage, forcing officials to evacuate them. The exact number of people affected is not known.

Some of the displaced residents were told to seek help at the Meadowvale Community Center, where social services, the Emergency Department and the Canadian Red Cross were stationed to help coordinate shelter, food, clothing and medicines.

Officials said firefighters will remain at the site overnight and will work with the Office of the Fire Marshal to investigate the blaze.

Residents who still need support are asked to call 905-615-4508.
