Shakira reveals dad hospitalized after ‘bad fall’ amid shock split from football star Gerard Pique

A day after she confirmed her divorce from longtime partner Gerard Piqué, Shakira revealed that her father was hospitalized.

The singer, 45, shared the bad news Twitter over the weekend, saying her father, William Mebarak Chadid, was rushed to hospital by ambulance after suffering a “severe fall”.

“Guys, I’m getting a lot of concerned messages that I was recently seen in an ambulance in Barcelona,” Shakira tweeted, along with a photo of her father with a bruised and bandaged eye.

Although William has since been released and is now on the mend, the ordeal was scary for the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer and her family.

“Just wanted to let you know that those pictures are from last weekend (the 28th) when my father had a bad fall and I accompanied him in an ambulance to the hospital where he is now recovering,” she continued.

“Please send all your best wishes his way and thank you everyone as always for all your love and support.”

The news came amid the singer’s divorce from the 35-year-old Spanish professional footballer, who first began dating in 2011. They first met in 2010 on the set of her music video “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which was the official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

“We are sorry to confirm that we are separating,” the couple said in a joint statement released on Saturday. “We are currently asking for privacy for the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority.”

“Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.”

Break-up news had been mounting in the last few months, with Shakira seemingly hinting at trouble in paradise in April when she released her single “Te Felicito,” featuring Puerto Rican singer Raw Alejandro.

In the lyrics, Skakira sang about betrayal in relationships.

“To complete you I broke to pieces. They warned me, but I wasn’t paying attention,” she sang. “I realized yours is fake. It was the drop that overflowed the glass. Don’t tell me you’re sorry, that seems genuine, but I know you well and I know you’re lying.”
