Suns don’t stop after AFL bye: Dew

Gold Coast is chasing an AFL final debut and coach Stuart Dew says they treat any opponent like a game of danger.

The Suns (6-6) face Adelaide (4-8) on Sunday at Metricon Stadium as hot favorites after having won four of their last five games.

But Gold Coast’s bare 12-season history without a finals place has Dew rammed home a message to be ruthless.

“You drop your guard and the competition gives you a little reminder,” Dew said.

“We learn all the time from the whole league and make sure we’re prepared… it’s all dangerous games.

“I say it every time, we plan the best of the opposition and make sure we take our own.”

Gold Coast said goodbye last weekend, after a productive two-week stint in the Northern Territory, resulting in crushing wins over Hawthorn and North Melbourne.

The only downside to their time in Darwin was losing running defender Lachie Weller to a season-ending knee injury.

Resurgent attacker Levi Casboult returns to the lineup against the Crows after a calf complaint ruled him out against the Kangaroos.

“There are some guys who play well in the VFL, but when the seniors deliver, they just have to keep knocking on the door,” Dew said.

“It’s good, healthy competition from within.

“The harder it is for us to pick a team, the better it is for the club.”
