Al-Ahly has been threatened with relegation to the lower division after falling into relegation positions for the final round of the Saudi League for the 2021-2022 season.
Al-Ahly suffered a sudden defeat in his stronghold at the hands of Al-Raed, 1-3 in the final round, falling to 14th in the Saudi League standings with 31 points.
And Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahly was threatened with relegation to the first division for the first time in its history since the application of the pro system in 2008.
Al-Ahly is one of 6 teams that have never been relegated from the Saudi League, along with Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, Al-Shabab and Al-Raed.
Al-Ahly will play his last game in the Saudi League this season next Monday, at home against Al-Shabab.
Al-Ahly will have to win, hoping the competitors will stumble with it to survive the final round relegation.
Al-Ahly is not the only old squad to suffer the specter of relegation to the lower division in 2022, which Al-Ain Sports assesses in the following lines.
English Premier League Champions
In the 2021-2022 season, the English Premier League witnessed a series of transformations and swings at the bottom of the rankings, with some prestigious teams surviving relegation to the first-degree “championship”.
Last season heralded some of the teams that have long histories in the English Premier League, led by Leeds United, Newcastle United and Everton.
Newcastle got off to a poor start to the season and the results pointed to imminent relegation at the end of the journey, had it not been for the fact that the deals from the new owners, led by coach Eddie Howe, have helped to correct the course.
Newcastle saved themselves from relegation after achieving excellent results in the second half of the season and moved up to 11th place at the end of the season.
While Everton and Leeds United were on the brink of relegation until the final rounds, they had failed to achieve some of the results that kept them away from the first division, which would see Burnley join Watford and Norwich City for the championship.
Leeds United is one of the former champions of the English Premier League, winning the title 3 times, while Everton won 9 times for the Premier League era, while Newcastle was one of the first champions of the English Premiership at the turn of the century League was in 4 different seasons.
The German Bundesliga was on the brink of saying goodbye to one of its former champions, Stuttgart, who was close to the brink of danger late last season.
Stuttgart survived relegation thanks to a killer stoppage time goal in his last game in the Bundesliga, to take a win that led to continuation in the league, while taking advantage of Hertha Berlin’s stumbling block.
Stuttgart is one of the Bundesliga champions in its history after having won the title five times, the last of which was in 2007, to avoid the fate of Schalke, Hamburg and Werder Bremen, who had been relegated to the second division in recent seasons .
Saint-Etienne was the historic champion of the French League for last season, having won the title 10 times, the last of which was in 1981.
But Paris Saint-Germain managed to equalize Saint-Etienne’s record last season and the side suffered a double blow at the same time.
The first attack equalized his record through the Paris team, and the second was his relegation to the second degree after taking 18th place in the French League standings with 32 points, to make the league one of its historic losing champions.
Al-Ismaili is currently living in a similar situation to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahly, given the poor level and the deterioration of results at the level of the Egyptian League.
The old Ismaili was on the brink of falling to the lowest level, as he took 15th place with 19 points, having played 21 games since the start of the competition.
Al-Ismaili has previously won the Egyptian League title 3 times, the last being in the 2001-2022 season, as it is the third most awarded team in history.
