Tim Allen Speaks For The First Time About ‘Lightyear’ Controversy – Deadline

The original Buzz Lightyear has finally talked about the controversy over Chris Evans casting the lead character in Disney/Pixar’s light year origin story.

“The short answer is I kept out of this because it has nothing to do with it.” [with my Buzz Lightyear]Allen told Extra about the new film in an interview published Wednesday.

The origin story of the movie character that inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy from the Toy Story movies replace Allen’s talents with Evans’s. But Allen pointed out, as many have done, that he was expressing a toy and Evans an (animated) human.

“It’s a beautiful story,” Allen said of light year† “It just doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the toys, and it’s kind of… I don’t know. It just has no relation to Buzz. It’s just not a connection. I wish there was a better connection.”

Allen also revealed that he was part of discussions about the film early on.

“We talked about this years ago. It came up in one of the sessions. I said, “What a fun movie that would be.”

“But the brass that made the first four films,” he said probably in reference to the late Pixar chief John Lasseter, “this is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first films.”

Allen also noted that part of the magic of the Toy Story movies is that they are really buddy movies.

“It’s Hanks and I. There really isn’t any” Toy Stories Buzz without Woody.
