Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has suggested that Frenkie de Jong, who is still closely linked with the summer move to Old Trafford, is worth more than £100million.
And press reports have linked the Barcelona star’s presence in the Red Devils squad, starting next season, as the Manchester administration looks to take advantage of the Blaugrana’s financial situation and kidnap the midfield jewel.
And the Dutch coach spoke to “NOS”, where he revealed De Jong’s real financial worth after his country’s last game against Wales.
What did Van Gaal say?
It is thought that everyone can agree that De Jong’s value in the transfer market exceeds the €100 million mark, but it is not known whether Manchester United will be able to afford this amount.
For his part, Van Gaal said: “De Jong brings extra quality, which is why he is worth 112 million euros.”
And of his performance in the encounter against Wales, he explained: “I already knew how important Frinke was, I don’t need to see that anymore.”
Will Barcelona sell de Jong to Manchester United?
The Red Devils will not give up their quest for the jewel of Barcelona’s midfield as Manchester United prepare for negotiations on the matter.
It is known that Ten Hag is looking for at least 5 acquisitions for the selection that he has inherited from interim coach Ralf Rangnick.
But what is difficult to convince De Jong or other names to join the English squad is the absence of the Red Devils in the Champions League next season.
For his part, Barcelona president Joan Laporta did not hide the possibility that De Jong will leave this summer due to the current financial crisis.
